Kurt Cobain is one of my all time favorite rockstars. He is one of my idols. Kurt was such an amazing musician and songwriter. Kurt, Dave and Kris just worked so well together. You know a band is great when, every single time you listen to them, your favorite song is different. That's the case with these guys for me. I listen to Love Buzz and it's just perfect. It's my favorite. Then I listen to Scoff. So great. My favorite. Then Drain You. In Bloom. About A Girl. I love them all, I can't even pick my favorite. Not only do I admire Kurt's musicianship, but I also admire his attitude. He did not give a damn. They didn't need Gibson guitars or the most high class equipment to play or record with. Every note didn't have to be perfect and in it's place. They recorded and jammed using whatever instruments and equipment they could get their hands on and Kurt belted his vocals however he wanted to. As a musician, it's so peaceful and reassuring for me to listen to them and know that it wasn't the expensive, high class equipment or the need for perfection that made them famous. It was the grunge that made them Nirvana. Nowadays, artists are so studio based. Everything has to be set, in it's place, and redone over and over again until it's perfect. It's okay for vocals to be effected so they don't sound like the individual who sang them. Everybody has to be so assimillated. Miley Cyrus has to be the next Britney Spears who's the next Christina who's the next Madonna and so on. Kurt was just Kurt. Nirvana was Nirvana. They did what they wanted and what they liked. They played what they thought sounded good. Kurt's lyrics were his own. They're a part of him. Kurt, Kris and Dave are such inspirations and idols to me. Nirvana is one of my main influences in my music. I admire each and every one of these guys for what they have accomplished and the sublime music they've made.
And with that I say, Happy birthday Kurt! You will always be remembered! <3
